Thing #1: Lifelong Learning

I would definitely describe myself as a lifelong learner. I have always enjoyed reading and finding out more information about a subject that intrigues me. These are the seven and 1/2 habits of highly successful people:

1. Begin with the end in mind.
2. Accept Responsibilty for your own learning.
3. View problems as challenges.
4. Have confidence in yourself as a competent, lifelong learner.
5. Create your own learning tool kit (friends, books, web pages).
6. Use technology to your advantage.
7. Teach and mentor others.
  7 ½.  Play!

Easiest: Accept responsibility for your own learning. I truly enjoy learning so I think this is one of the easiest habits for me to accomplish. I don’t hesitate to ask my principal to attend workshops that look interesting, I read books when I am curious about something professionally, and I’ve looked up articles to learn more about a topic that we might have discussed at school or in class.  I’m also constantly on the internet to find new and innovative ways to teach a concept in my classroom.

Hardest: Play! Every year when school starts, this is a struggle. I try to make the most of this during spring break, winter break, and in the summer, but I need to make more of a conscious effort to make this happen all the time. I’ve tried to analyze why this is a problem, and I think it’s because I get myself involved in too many projects. I’m a perfectionist so it stresses me out when I don’t give 100% to each task I take on, and recently it’s not possible to give every project that amount of attention. I am going to learn to start saying No so that I can put more effort into the things I’m most passionate about.

  1. It is actually pretty easy for me to "play." I find that I am more tempted to have fun during any activity/responsibility. However, my danger lies in the fact that sometimes I "play" too much and do not take the actual task seriously.

Because of that, my hardest thing is to take responsibility for my own learning. I am more tempted to enjoy it than set up a self imposed structure that motivates me to do the work.

Basically, we are opposites on this one.

  2. I think being a perfectionist is a good thing in some cases, but when it comes to play, I think everyone needs to remember to stop and smell the roses every once and a while! Also, I love your background it is so cute!
